Bible Verses About Love

It is a basic human need to love and be loved. I am writing this as Valentine’s Day approaches. I now have my husband as my Valentine but I can easily remember the Valentine’s Days where I had no Valentine and usually a broken heart on top of that from a recent break up. Even in those bitter seasons of loneliness I still loved Valentine’s Day. Now don’t get me wrong. I probably would have told you I hated it but I was lying.

I love holidays that cause us to stop and focus on something. Take Christmas for example. Sure we should all celebrate the birth of Jesus all year long, but it’s just so special to have a season where that is our focus. Easter! We diffidently should all think on the cross and resurrection of Christ throughout the whole year, but it’s profoundly beautiful to have a day where we are united in the celebration of that sacrifice. Valentine's Day is the same to me on two different levels. Sure your special somebody should express love to you everyday, but this is a day to not only express the love you share but to also celebrate it!

Now lets say you don’t have a special someone. That’s okay because there is a greater source of love that is available to you! There is the ultimate love! God! He literally IS love and He loves you! We are only able to love each other because He has first loved us! So you are not alone this Valentine’s Day season (or any season if you are reading this long after February 14th) because God loves you. Don’t let the enemy cause you to focus on what you don’t have. That is one of his oldest schemes. Instead make the most of these days and focus on what you do have. Eternal steadfast love from a God who delights in knowing you. Here are some verses to about love to meditate on!

Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it. If a man offered for love all the wealth of his house, he would be utterly despised. Song of Solomon 8:7

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

We love because he first loved us. 1 John 4:19

By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. 1 John 3:16

Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 1 John 4:8-11

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20

Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. Psalm 63:3

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:6-8

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:37-39
