Christmas Worship Music Playlist + Our Favorite Christmas Bible Verses

I love Christmas. I love the Advent season, and it’s sweet reminders that we have a Savior who chose to come down from His throne to be born as a vulnerable baby so that He could eventually pay a price that was too high for us to pay on our own. I love a season dedicated to remembering that Jesus came to make way for us to be adopted and set free from all that would bing us.

I love Christmas. Christmas music is another story. I can be a bit of a scrooge when it comes to Christmas music, especially the classics. They make me sad. I think it is because we lost a beloved grandparent right before Christmas one year growing up, and maybe that just taught my child brain to be melancholy when the classics come on.

I may not be a fan of most classics, but I love worship music. So I combined a list of mostly nontraditional and more modern Christmas worship songs for anyone else who is not as into those old school songs. Even if you love the classics, this might be a nice change to your Christmas music rotation.

(My list does include two classics, but they are beautiful and do not induce feelings of despair.)

I also added some verses that came to mind as I listened to each song.

Wishing you and yours a wonderful Christmas full of His love and presence!

All the verses marked TPT shared in today post are taken from one of Mike and I’s very favorite translations, The Passion Translation. We love this version and the heart behind it. The best part is the Kindle version is usually available on Amazon for under $10. Last time I checked, it was only $6.99! You can check it out here.

Emmanuel by Bryan & Katie Torwalt

Behold behold the one
Our love is come
Behold behold the one
Our king is come
Then heavens wore
The earth stood still
His final breath
He tore the veil
The angels sang holy is his name
Emmanuel
God with us forever
Emmanuel
Savior of the world
Emmanuel emmanuel

“Listen! A virgin will be pregnant, she will give birth to a Son, and he will be known as “Emmanuel,” which means in Hebrew, “God became one of us.”” Matthew 1:23 TPT

Here Comes Heaven by Elevation Worship

“Sinner, wait no more
Love has broken the silence
Come let us adore
The Savior is with us
Angels, let your song begin
Here comes Heaven
Christ is born in Bethlehem
Here comes Heaven
Here comes Heaven”

“For this is how much God loved the world—he gave his one and only, unique Son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in him will never perish but experience everlasting life.” John 3:16 TPT

“This is the true testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life has its source in his Son.” 1 John 5:11 TPT

Light Of The World by Lauren Daigle

“The drought breaks with the tears of a mother
A baby's cry is the sound of love
Come down, come down, Emmanuel
He is the song for the suffering
He is Messiah, the Prince of Peace has come
He has come, Emmanuel”

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.” Isaiah 9:2 ESV

O Holy Night by David Phelps

“Chains he shall break,
for the slave is our brother.

And in his name all oppression shall cease.

Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,

With all our hearts we praise His holy name.”

But when that era came to an end and the time of fulfillment had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the written law. Yet all of this was so that he would redeem and set free all those held hostage to the written law so that we would receive our freedom and a full legal adoption as his children. Galatians 4:4-5 TPT

Kings of Kings by Hillsong Worship

“In the darkness, we were waiting

Without hope, without light

'Til from Heaven You came running

There was mercy in Your eyes

To fulfill the law and prophets

To a virgin came the Word

From a throne of endless glory

To a cradle in the dirt”

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.” Isaiah 9:6-7 ESV

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel by Francesca Battistelli

“O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free

Thine own from Satan's tyranny

From depths of Hell Thy people save

And give them victory o'er the grave

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel

Shall come to thee, O Israel”

“But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.” Micah 5:2 ESV

I can testify that the Word is true and deserves to be received by all, for Jesus Christ came into the world to bring sinners back to life—even me, the worst sinner of all! 1 Timothy 1:15 TPT
