The 4 Best Verses To Pray Over Your Pregnancy
/Let’s talk about scriptures you can pray over your pregnancy. The Bible is full of promises and encouragement that can be prayed by expectant mothers over their pregnancies and unborn babies.
As many of our regular readers know, Mike and I have had a long and challenging road to becoming parents. The good news is by the time you are seeing this, we just had our first son! However if I am being honest, as I sit writing this I am 9 months pregnant and trying as hard as I can to remain patient as I await his arrival.
Pregnancy has taught me a ton about myself, my body and the Father but it has also taught me how easy it can be to fret and worry about all the things that could possibly go wrong. I am not generally a worrier. I tend to take life in stride. Motherhood has for sure challenged that though.
Whether you’ve had a challenging journey leading up to pregnancy or not, trust me, there is plenty to worry about. The good news is we don’t have to! We can resist the fear and actually enjoy pregnancy!
Today I wanted to compile some of the verses that have been helping me through this pregnancy. Just in case you are new to praying scripture I will also share examples on how I would pray the verse over my pregnancy and unborn baby.
And I find that the strength of Christ’s explosive power infuses me to conquer every difficulty. Philippians 4:13 TPT
First things first, you CAN do this. You were created for this. Your body was designed to do this and do this well. Then you add in the support and help of Jesus! There is nothing you can’t do with Him on your side.
For this verse I would pray something like:
“Father, thank you for the body you have blessed me with. Thank you for all that it is capable of. Thank you that I get to carry this little life. Father, I know that you are with me. When fear, anxiety and doubts come help me to fall back into You and Your strength. Remind me again that I can conquer and overcome every difficulty through the explosive power of Your Son.”
They will not live in fear or dread of what may come, for their hearts are firm, ever secure in their faith. Steady and strong, they will not be afraid, but will calmly face their every foe until they all go down in defeat. Psalm 112:7-8 TPT
This one is a favorite because it is so declarative. David had this habit of declaring powerful truths over himself even when he was in the most challenging and discouraging of situations. He did this to stir himself up. I say we learn from his example and pray and declare these truths over ourselves and our pregnancies.
I would pray this verse something like this:
Father thank you for being with me. Thank you that you are for me. Thank you that with You I can live free from fear and dread of what the future may hold. Thank you that regardless of what may come against me and regardless of the report, I can trust that you will be on my side and that you will fight for me. Thank You for making me secure. Thank You that I am steady and strong and I don’t have to be afraid.
Then, because this verse has so many great declarative statements, I would journal or verbally declare the affirming statements over myself like this:
I will not live in fear or dread of what may come.
My heart is firm and I am secure in my faith.
I am steady and strong and I will not be afraid.
I am calm knowing whatever comes against me will go down in defeat.
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 ESV
I have heard that the phrase “fear not” is found in the bible around 365 times suggesting there is one for each day of the year. I have never counted so I am not sure if that is true but I know it is a super common theme throughout scripture.
Our Father clearly wants us to know that we can be courageous and brave as we rest in the promise that He is always with us. When pregnancy fears and worries pop up we can turn to Him and hear His gentle whisper to “fear not.” He’s got this.
I would pray:
Thank you for being such a kind and patient Father that you would remind my sometimes forgetful heart over and over that I can trust you and reject fear. Father help me to keep my eyes on you throughout this pregnancy and all it’s wild hormones. I accept Your strength. I accept Your help. Thank you for upholding me. I choose to find my peace and rest in Your hands.
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock. Isaiah 26:3-4 ESV
This is a powerful truth and promise. Mike and I keep this one in a huge painting on our wall because it’s so important. Pregnancy comes with tons of what if’s and lists of potential obstacles and challenges.
Then there’s people. People and all their expectations of you and the child you are carrying. I was not prepared for the demands and expectations family would have for me and my growing family. Add in preparing for the baby’s needs and baby proofing the house on top of all that plus your fatigue, new found physical limitations and hormones and it is a lot.
It is not crazy or shameful that we have to guard our hearts and minds throughout this process. That’s why this verse and its promise are so powerful. If we keep our minds stayed on Him, if we can push past noise, distractions, fears and worries and get our minds set back on Him, He will keep us in perfect peace.
I would pray this verse something like this:
Father, I am feeling overwhelmed (insert emotions, fears and worries here). I did not expect these challenges. I am tired. I am scared. I am frustrated. I am so thankful. I am beyond excited. Thank You that You are not overwhelmed by all of these emotions. I am thankful that it’s all not too much for You. Father, I need Your help. Would You remind me of Your love and faithfulness towards me? Will You help me get my mind back on You? I reject these worries and fears and I cast them before you. I will trust in You. I receive once again Your perfect peace.
These scriptures for pregnancy really brought me comfort and peace and I pray they do the same for you. I encourage you to find more though. Search out the Bible and find even more promises and verses to pray over your pregnancy and the baby in your womb.
